Portfolio Entry #1 INTRODUCTION!

DREAM ON- AEROSMITH
Every time when I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It went by, like dusk to dawn
Isn't that the way
Everybody's got the dues in life to pay
I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody sin
You got to lose to know how to win
Half my life
Is books, written pages
Live and learn from fools and
From sages
You know it's true, oh
All these feelings come back to you
Sing with me, sing for the years
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

Dream on
Dream until your dreams come true
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

I have chosen the song ‘Dream on’ since it is about dreams and the way in which I can perceive my life. I have selected it because of several reasons. Firstly, this song comforts me when I have a bad day because it shows me I always have a new opportunity, despite my previous experiences. Secondly, this song becomes really important after starting my career at the Teaching training college. Due to the fact that I did not have an advanced English level. In fact, I have wondered whether I would want to do it or not and the answer has always been ‘yes’.” For that reason, I have given my best and  I have done what teachers asked me to.
As the song says in the chorus  “dream on, dream until your dreams come true”. It is the most beautiful and important message of the song. In every moment of my life, this stanza comes to me to remind me that I do not have to give up, in spite of the circumstances.  In my opinion, all of us could feel  and understand this part of the song because everyone has dreams to fight for.

This song´s video may not be directly related to my personal experiences but the message shows me that we always have a second chance to start again as well as the runners shown on the video. It is about “The Boston bombing survivors” since Aerosmith decided to make a tribute to honor the victims of the attempt.  There, we can see pictures of the people who were part of the marathon. This is the reason for which I think it shows that we could always have a new beginning.

  1. Dear Luz, this song has a strong inspirational message. I have participated in more than 15 running events so far, and many runner stories are absolutely astonishing. People who lost both legs or went blind or/and deaf are there with me side to side running. But why? Because, as you have said, life shows us that we can always have a second chance, a new beginning.

I agree with you that we do not have to give up and fight for our dreams. Keep on fighting as those runners of the song, and you will achieve whatever you want.

Portfolio Entry #7: Writing and Academic Writing

One of the primary things that a teacher should think before giving a writing task is the stages that it involves. The first one is the pre-writing task in which we have to design a task step by step. That implies thinking about the subskills students will need, such as topics, background knowledge, vocabulary, grammar, discourse, etc. For instance, if the focus is on the topic we can ask the students what are they going to write about and,  what notions they want to reflect on the writing. Besides, we can use associograms to help them brainstorm, prompts by including images, music, or interviews which help them to contextualize what they are going to write. All of them are fruitful for generating ideas, topics, or building vocabulary for their writing. The second stage is during-writing. While students write, the teacher has to give guidance in order to improve their writing, for example, he/she can ask what caused the event they are writing about or help them to describe the ma...

Portfolio Entry #0: WELCOME!

“Almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts. You need to start somewhere.” –  Anne Lamott “You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.” ―  Ray Bradbury ‘"Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." — Theodore Roosevelt Welcome to my blog!   I included these quotes to share with you, which I think reflect what we have learned throughout these years in this subject . That is the process in which we get involved, learning by try and error about language, culture, and teaching .  I hope you like it!

Porfolio Entry #9: Writing Project: Refugees

via GIPHY We refugees by Benjamin Zephaniah We Refugees | A Benjamin Zephaniah Poem from Red Café on Vimeo . The poem “we can all be refugees”, written by Benjamin Zephaniah, faces us to the reality of many people around the world. The author of the poem mentioned some reasons by which he, like other people, was tortured, for instance, singing a song, praying for a different God, or having black skin were source of discrimination. The refugees as well as our ancestors had to move on to different places because of political, religious, cultural, natural, or war conflicts. As the poem mentioned, we can all be refugees due to the fact that we did not just appear. All of us descend from migrants, which means that the world is shaped by people from many places who had to change their lives radically to start again in a different place, that is why all of us can be refugees. Therefore, Zephaniah described those who tortured and discriminated him as “his brother in his land” because he s...
