Metacognitive Analysis:

Considering that we, as students, read very long texts, knowing how to write an abstract is highly advantageous. Sometimes we tend to highlight the texts we read in order to differentiate the important parts from the other ones. However, it is better to make a kind of summary which could help us at the time of giving an exam. Owing to we need to use certain vocabulary while writing or talking about some themes, it could be useful to write an abstract, which is more academic and complete than a simple summary. Besides, it does not only include the information of the main text but also its purpose and result, therefore, we could have in mind specific ideas of the whole text. Even though writing an abstract just to study could be kind of demanding,  I consider it a great tool to take into account while preparing for an exam.

Portfolio Entry #7: Writing and Academic Writing

One of the primary things that a teacher should think before giving a writing task is the stages that it involves. The first one is the pre-writing task in which we have to design a task step by step. That implies thinking about the subskills students will need, such as topics, background knowledge, vocabulary, grammar, discourse, etc. For instance, if the focus is on the topic we can ask the students what are they going to write about and,  what notions they want to reflect on the writing. Besides, we can use associograms to help them brainstorm, prompts by including images, music, or interviews which help them to contextualize what they are going to write. All of them are fruitful for generating ideas, topics, or building vocabulary for their writing. The second stage is during-writing. While students write, the teacher has to give guidance in order to improve their writing, for example, he/she can ask what caused the event they are writing about or help them to describe the ma...

Portfolio Entry #0: WELCOME!

“Almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts. You need to start somewhere.” –  Anne Lamott “You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.” ―  Ray Bradbury ‘"Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." — Theodore Roosevelt Welcome to my blog!   I included these quotes to share with you, which I think reflect what we have learned throughout these years in this subject . That is the process in which we get involved, learning by try and error about language, culture, and teaching .  I hope you like it!

Porfolio Entry #9: Writing Project: Refugees

via GIPHY We refugees by Benjamin Zephaniah We Refugees | A Benjamin Zephaniah Poem from Red Café on Vimeo . The poem “we can all be refugees”, written by Benjamin Zephaniah, faces us to the reality of many people around the world. The author of the poem mentioned some reasons by which he, like other people, was tortured, for instance, singing a song, praying for a different God, or having black skin were source of discrimination. The refugees as well as our ancestors had to move on to different places because of political, religious, cultural, natural, or war conflicts. As the poem mentioned, we can all be refugees due to the fact that we did not just appear. All of us descend from migrants, which means that the world is shaped by people from many places who had to change their lives radically to start again in a different place, that is why all of us can be refugees. Therefore, Zephaniah described those who tortured and discriminated him as “his brother in his land” because he s...
